Title of the talk: Accelerating Quantum Research through the Development of Novel Quantum Materials and the Exploration of Exotic Phenomena
Abstract: The synthesis of bulk crystals, thin films, and nanostructures is a crucial aspect of advancing the frontiers of quantum materials. In this research seminar, I will present a synthesis-focused perspective on how the discovery of quantum materials takes place and how their exotic properties are revealed.
In the first part of my talk, I will highlight my recent discovery of a new class of room-temperature ferroelectric chalcogenide, Cu₁₋ₓMn₁₊ᵧSiTe₃, which exhibits strong magnetoelectric coupling and ferroelectric behavior at ambient conditions—an exceptional property among transition metal chalcogenides. I will discuss the synthesis, structural characterization, and the emergent functionalities identified through advanced measurements.
In the second part, I will present my work on colossal angular magnetoresistance (CAMR) in a ferrimagnetic nodal-line semiconductor, Mn₃Si₂Te₆. I will demonstrate how spin orientation-driven band topology can lead to a metal-insulator transition within the same magnetic phase, resulting in an unprecedented angular response of magnetotransport exceeding a trillion percent per radian.
Finally, I will outline my future directions in the development of quantum materials and 2D quantum systems, emphasizing the pivotal experimental methodologies I have developed and employed over the past five years.
