Dr. Renu Swarup is an Indian geneticist and former Secretary, Government of India, formerly heading the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science and Technology. She has actively contributed in the formulation of India's Biotechnology Vision and Strategy. She is credited with the establishment of India's largest microbial resource centre, Microbial Culture Collection.

Prof. Umesh Waghmare, who assumed charge as Secretary, DST, in July 2026, is a distinguished materials scientist and former Professor at the Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research (JNCASR). His pioneering research in computational materials science spans multifunctional materials, nanostructures, quantum geometry, topological materials, and materials for energy and environmental applications. He has received several prestigious national awards, including the S.S. Bhatnagar Prize, Infosys Prize and GD Birla Award for Scientific Research, and has served as President of the Indian Academy of Sciences.
Prof. Kalobaran Maiti

Prof. Kalobaran Maiti

Professor Kalobaran Maiti is an Indian physicist specialising in condensed matter physics and materials science. He was awarded the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology in 2010, the highest science award in India, in the physical sciences category for his contribution in the field of very high resolution photoelectron spectroscopy in understanding the physics of metal-insulator transition, charge density wave and Kondo systems. He is also a Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences, Indian Academy of Sciences and the Indian National Science Academy. At TIFR, Maiti has built an electron spectrometer that can measure the energy of electrons with very high accuracy. He has taken over as Director, IACS from 19th March 2025.

Vice-Chancellor, Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI)

Prof. U. Kamachi Mudali is the Vice Chancellor of Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), a deemed to be University affiliated to Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Mumbai. He was earlier Vice Chancellor of VIT Bhopal University, Sehore (2021-23); Honorary Professor of Practice, IIT Madras (2021-22); and, Chairman & Chief Executive of Heavy Water Board (HWB), Mumbai (2017-2020). As an accomplished team leader, he has displayed excellent leadership at HWB for the production of heavy water and specialty materials by managing seven plants located at different parts of the country.

Suman Kumari Mishra is a prominent scientist and administrator, known for her work in materials science, particularly in the areas of hard coatings, protective coatings, and energy materials. She has held leadership positions at the CSIR-Central Glass & Ceramic Research Institute (CGCRI), including Director, and has also served as Dean and Associate Dean for engineering sciences at ACSIR. She has a strong research background with numerous patents, publications, and awards.
Dr. Dinakar Kanjilal

Dinakar Kanjilal is an eminent Academician. He has been involved in the innovative development of world class accelerators and associated experimental research facilities for carrying out internationally competitive research in the front ranking areas in science and accelerator technology for more about four decades. He did his PhD and Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Physics at IIT Kanpur. He joined the Inter-University Accelerator Centre (IUAC) at Delhi as one of the Founder Scientists at the very beginning in the year 1985 for planning, development and installation of India’s largest Tandem Accelerator called 15UD Pelletron for carrying out innovative research activities.
Prof. Swaminathan Sivaram

Swaminathan Sivaram is an Indian polymer chemist, inventor, institution builder and a former director of the National Chemical Laboratory, Pune. He is known for his pioneering work on alkylation of tertiary alkyl halides with trialkylaluminum and olefin polymerization and holds the highest number of US patents by an Indian working outside the US. He is a fellow of several significant professional organizations. The Government of India awarded him the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri, in 2006, for his contributions to Indian science.

Maitrayee Dasgupta is a Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Calcutta and her research interests are symbiotic nitrogen fixation and plant receptor kinases. She has established a vibrant research program, training more than 17 PhD students and postdocs, been recognized by multiple agencies, and is a fellow of all three National Academies of Sciences in India.
Sarbani Saha

Sarbani Saha has been associated with the Administration of IACS since 2006. With her formal degree in Computer applications, she had taken active leadership in computerizing various activities at IACS. The secretarial experience in her service career has helped her convening and conducting the important institutional meetings and correspondences efficaciously.
