The Cradle of Scientific Research

The country's first modern scientific research institution completes 150 years.

It was the dream of Rev. Dr. Mahendra Lal Sircar. It became a collective endeavour that brought together many outstanding students from some of Kolkata's finest colleges, along with several of the city's leading citizens. Many of India's early advances in modern scientific research began there. In many ways, it may well have been the place where scientific research in India truly took root. That institution is the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS).
