The National Conference on Electronic Structure (NCES) is an annual gathering that brings together researchers and scholars to share ideas, discoveries, and methods across spectroscopy, microscopy, and theoretical studies of materials. The conference covers a wide range of topics including ARPES, XPS, ST, EXAFS, XANES, DFT, strongly correlated systems, superconductivity, topological materials, and quantum solids, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of the field.

We are thrilled to bring the 2026 edition of NCES to one of the country's most storied scientific institutions — the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), Kolkata, known as the birth place of the Raman Effect, where Sir C.V. Raman made his groundbreaking discovery in 1928 that earned him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930. IACS holds an unmatched place in India's scientific history. Founded on 29 July 1876 by Dr. Mahendralal Sircar, IACS is India's first research institution dedicated to basic science. Established with the vision of fostering scientific inquiry in India, IACS is home to fundamental research spanning physical sciences, chemical sciences, biological sciences, materials sciences, interdisciplinary sciences, and mathematics & computational sciences. Over the past 150 years, IACS has remained a beacon of curiosity-driven research, innovation, and scientific excellence, nurturing generations of distinguished scientists and making transformative contributions to science and society. The NCES 2026 provides an incomparable backdrop for the celebration of 150th anniversary of IACS, honoring its century-and-a-half legacy.
