Inorganic Chemistry
Welcome to the Department of Inorganic Chemistry, IACS:
The Department of Inorganic Chemistry was established in 1951. Research activities started in 1952. Since then the Department has slowly transformed into a centre of excellence for research in Inorganic Chemistry. The Department is actively involved in the frontline research in synthesis, structure, reactions and properties of inorganic molecules and materials. The research activities are focused on the synthesis and reactivity of coordination compounds, crystal engineering, inorganic photophysics, metal mediated/catalyzed organic transformation, bioinorganic and biomimetic chemistry, supramolecular chemistry, recognition of anions and ion-pairs, chemical sensing of ions and molecular self-assembly, molecular magnetism, Alzheimer’s disease, and bioinspired catalysis. The Department has programs for Ph.D. and post-doctoral research work. At present the Department has nine faculty members, ten technical and office staffs and about 75 Ph.D. and post-doctoral students.
